The history of bandages with therapeutic purposes dates back to the times of the Greeks and Romans with the well-known song of the Iliad where Achilles bandages the arm and the wounds of Patroclus. It is defined as bandaging or application of tape or bands stretched over a traumatized area to limit hemorrhage to the damaged area and encourage the first stages of healing. The NMT Concept is derived from a rehabilitation objective where in key is decompression and dilation. Over the last thirty years, various techniques of elastic bandage and taping have been developed in different parts of the world, but the origin of these methods always remains the compression of the various parts of the body.
These taping techniques involve the application of a elastic adhesive tape, with different tension levels, but always giving a compressive stimulus which are used especially in sporting treatment area.
Beginning in 2000 and consolidated during 2003 David Blow, in Italy, created the “NMT Know-How” and the “Intellectual Property – NMT“ together with the development of both the NMT concept and the NMT Institute. The Institute plays a key role in the management of precise training and in the development of specific protocols for pathologies and conditions requiring treatment. Since its creation, the NMT Institute is a benchmark for specific innovative training programs and for its involvement in numerous volunteer initiatives in various parts of the world. Through correct training the NMT Know-How is passed on to health care professionals while in collaboration with tertiary education institutions the NMT intellectual property can be shared to all.
THE NEUROMUSCULAR TAPING INSTITUTE ®
The training Area of the NeuroMuscular Taping Institute was founded as a structure for the design, coordination and realization of training activities. This certification is the confirmation of our professionalism and our orientation towards continuous education. Our objective is to guarantee all participants in our courses high standards of effectiveness in the training process. All our courses in the Rehabilitation and health field issue CME credits for continuing education in medicine according to the current regulations of the Ministry of Health in the country where courses are held. NMT training follows the stringent “NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST” internal clause in medical services education.
In order to maintain the quality of education services offered, from January 2011 the SAVA rehabilitation services, which manages the Neuromuscular Taping Institute has obtained the ISO 9001:2008 accredited Certification Accredia (certificate N ° IT238071, 2010 Quality Italia).
This certification is the confirmation of our professionalism and our orientation to continuous improvement in order to guarantee all participants in our courses high standards of effectiveness of our formative process.
The Institute is the result of years of experience and research in the rehabilitative medical field by the founder David Blow. The NMT Institute is based in Rome since 2003, from 2012 also in New York, from 2013 in Africa (Congo and Ethiopia), from 2015 in Indonesia and 2017 in Malaysia. David, in addition to training the Institute’s teaching team, teaches personally in hospitals, clinics, universities and private facilities. The Taping NeuroMuscular Concept (NMTConcept) is widely accepted and used by public hospitals and private clinics.
The Neuromuscular ® Taping Institute is committed to creating innovative continuing education programmes to improve rehabilitation services.
Our goal is to optimize treatment results through the use of our NMT protocols, helping your patients to achieve an active and healthy lifestyle. Our teaching program, with specific courses covering many areas in medicine, together with our qualified and certified teacher group, are a guarantee in acquiring new effective and highly professional treatment skills.
Our philosophy is based on the use of “Clear and comprehensive educational programs” capable of offering NeuroMuscular Taping as a flexible technique that can be integrated with all rehabilitative therapies. NeuroMuscular Taping is a treatment therapy developed in Italy, used successfully in hospitals, clinics and private studies and is recognized and used as a supportive therapy in medical rehabilitation. The NMT System is capable of guaranteeing tangible results, clinically proven and scientifically approved treatment protocols.
NMT underlying spirit: all of us who work in medicine strive to improve our treatment approach to enhance the healing process and improve our patients quality of life notwithstanding sometimes very difficult circumstances. NMT is about real day-to-day clinical medicine and rehabilitation and all who are involved in NMT medical training do so from this bottom up approach. Training and research that modifies the way we see, percieve and eventual treat diseases and conditions.
All NMT activities are financed solely by tuition fees and NMT book royalities. NMT Institute and David Blow personally is actively financing directly many projects and creation of new training collaborations in many parts of the world.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
The R&D aspect of the NMT institute is based upon the creation of clinicial experiences and controlled treatment trials leading to research projects that eventually modify how we treat our patients. A good idea is not enough – it has to be substantiated using correct and precise treatment methodology. The role of the NMT Institute is to create correct and duplicable training which is the basis to all continuing education and the primary objective to all training in medicine. Our role is to ensure that the NMT Know-How created over the last 20 years becomes solid and reproducible medical intellegence.
Evidence based medicine NMT publications: During 2017 various research articles were published and many of them requires important particular attention.
Towards the end of each academic year there are many university thesis presented and some are developed into research publications. It is our strong intention to sustain research and development together with the tertiary university system.
NEUROMUSCULAR TAPING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES
The NMT Institute has created a treatment concept of decompression taping called “NeuroMuscular Taping” widely known in medicine and rehabilitation. The NMTConcept is used in physical rehabilitation, in sports medicine, in nursing, in speech therapy and language pathologies, in all aspects of health care. It is a therapeutic ally in the prevention of and in the active treatment of many conditions requiring increased self-healing capacity.
The “NMT Know-How” and the “Intellectual Property – NMT“ began in 2000 and consolidated during 2003 together with the creation of both the NMT concept and the NMT Institute.
